With apologies to Jay North, who played “Dennis the Menace” in the old TV show and died recently.
This picture of him grabbed my attention when it came up on my phone. It seemed to illustrate the attitude of the current regime, pedaling full tilt into a dysfunctional authoritarian state.
The opening quote is from Joseph Conrad’s HEART OF DARKNESS and reflects the situation we’re in, the law gone rogue and controlled by a vengeful cult leader cheered on by millions gulping the KOOL-AID.
Actually, for a clearer rendering of the situation we could turn to Martin Scorsese’s APOCALYPSE NOW.
We are living in Kurtz’s Village. The film displays portly Marlon Brando’s dark brooding Kurtz, mumbling commands and platitudes in deep shadows.
We have our own fat slob, well-lit however, with fake hair and pancake makeup, parading in front of genuflecting minions, pontificating on his own greatness.
I love his cabinet meetings shown on FOX, when before any discussion starts, the participants must first praise and grovel before the leader.
WHOSE RUNNIN’ THIS JOINT!
The one hope, maybe slim, is to take back the House and Senate in 2026, if not, to quote Conrad once more:
“The Horror……the Horror.”
