Coffee at Sant Ambroeus in the West Village, on the corner of West 4th Street and Perry Street, is something of a dream. A true Italian delight in New York City. Sitting in the bar area with the “pot of coffee” with steamed milk on the side (my personal favorite thing to order while at the bar), is a delightful way to start the day, spend a lunch break, or enjoy a moment at day’s end.
In these ever fast paced, digital times that we live in, we often find ourselves needing a reset. A simple pleasure, such as a great coffee in a beautiful setting can do just the trick. Take some time away from your phone, laptop, social media…grab your journal or a magazine or newspaper, and take a seat at the bar at Sant Ambroeus.
The far corner seat is one of the best. You are positioned perfectly for a great view of the entire space and can take in the sights and sounds of the people around you. Nothing like a little bit of “people watching” to go along with your coffee.
Every time I am there, there is no doubt that I find myself having a lovely conversation with staff members or new people that I meet sitting next to me. Most recently I even had a patron from a table across the room come up to me at the bar and hand me a poem they had written for me. What a treat!
If you find yourself craving more than a coffee, you will also be truly pleased. The menu is full of inspired pasta dishes as well as other delicious Milanese faire. For those with a sweet tooth there are after dinner delights to be had. Also a full bar where the wine and espresso martinis are not to be missed. The bartenders at Sant Ambroeus, West Village, are some of the friendliest in New York City.
Be sure to linger for a time. There is no rush. Take a moment from your New York City hustle. This is surely the place to do it. It is an environment which will truly make you feel like as though you have stepped into a vacation. There’s nothing like a great coffee in the perfect corner seat.
For those inquiring minds, Sant Ambroeus is Milanese dialect for Saint Ambrose. Saint Ambrose is the Patron Saint of Milan, Italy. Wishing you all a little Italian vacation right here in the heart of Downtown, New York City.
